The Wigan Casino was a nightclub in WiganEngland. Operating between 1973 and 1981,[1] it became known as a primary venue for northern soul music

Wigan Casino began its weekly soul-nighters in September 1973. [7] At that time, there were soul clubs in virtually every major city in central and northern England. [10] Wigan Casino had a much larger capacity than many competing clubs and promoted its events from 02:00 until 08:00. There was a regular list of DJs, including Russ Winstanley. In 1976, the club had a membership of 100 thousand people, and in 1978, was chosen the number one discotheque of the world by the American magazine Billboard. This was during the heyday of Studio 54 in New York. At the end of the 1970s, the club had its own label, Casino Classics.

Was in operation until mid-1981, when a fire destroyed the legendary club
