About This File

This sofa, designed in the atomistic style, was designed in 1954 by Irving Harperalthough. For decades the design of the Marshmallow sofa was attributed to the architect George Nelson (It was an order for his architecture studio).

The design of the Marshmallow sofa is the result of placement of circular 'marshmallow' cushions —covered in either fabric, vinyl, or leather in bright colors— at regular intervals across a metal frame. Generally all the cushions were the same color —specially red or black—, but the sofa could also be ordered with cushions of various colors for a more whimsical look.
